Hong Kong Disneyland Resort is expanding again, and both additions are exclusive to Hong Kong. At D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event in Anaheim, California, from 14 to 16 August 2026, the resort unveiled an all-new Pixar theatrical spectacular for Toy Story Land, debuting in the first half of 2027, and a major expansion of its Marvel-themed area anchored by an Avengers attraction. Only one of the two has a timing window. This page sets out what has been announced, what has not, and what that means for a trip you are planning now.

The New Pixar Show in Toy Story Land

A massive theatre space is being built in Toy Story Land for an all-new Pixar-themed theatrical spectacular, and the story starts from the newest toy in the neighbourhood rather than from the films. Woody, Jessie, Buzz Lightyear, Rex and the rest of Andy's toys are the hosts, and the adventure is built around how meaningful friendships are built, nurtured and celebrated over time.

The lead character is new, which is the unusual part. Poppy is an original Pixar character created exclusively for this show: an adorable plush toy from Hong Kong who travels with her owner, Aria, to Andy's neighbourhood. Aria brings a collection of cherished keepsakes and childhood memories from home, and guests move through an expanded backyard play space dotted with nods to growing up in Hong Kong — Chinese chess, a rattle drum, egg tarts. Sweet and a little shy, Poppy curls into a ball whenever she feels nervous or overwhelmed, and the resident toys work together to help her settle in.

From there the show moves through five Pixar worlds: Toy Story, Monsters, Inc., Cars, The Incredibles and Inside Out. Two original songs were written for the production by Disney Live Entertainment teams in Hong Kong and the United States, including "Bloom", the pop-forward anthem for the friendships that blossom along the way. Disney's stated debut window is the first half of 2027, and the show is available exclusively at HKDL.

✨ A first for three studios

The production is a first-ever collaboration between Disney Live Entertainment, Pixar Animation Studios and Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) — the park entertainment arm, the Pixar studio and the visual-effects house, working on a single stage show.

The Marvel and Avengers Expansion

The second announcement is larger and, for now, undated. Hong Kong Disneyland's multi-year expansion continues with an expanded Marvel-themed area in Tomorrowland, anchored by an all-new Avengers attraction — and the resort describes the result as more than a single attraction: an all-new attraction, entertainment and shopping experiences brought together in one immersive destination.

Three elements of it were named:

A brand-new Quinjet landing platform. The platform creates opportunities for guests to encounter Marvel Super Heroes throughout the day — a place to meet characters, not just a piece of scenery in the background.

The Pavilion at Stark Expo. A striking new landmark at the heart of the expansion, intended to redefine Tomorrowland's skyline. It will be home to the Avengers Research Testing Labs, where Stark Industries and other brilliant minds — including Peter Parker, also known as Spider-Man — develop cutting-edge technologies to defend against future threats.

The journey through the attraction. Those technologies soon attract evil forces, taking guests on an action-packed journey with Spider-Man and more Super Heroes across Wakanda, Asgard and beyond.

📅 No date has been announced

Disney has not announced an opening date for the Avengers attraction or for any other part of the Marvel expansion. The only timing that exists publicly comes from government, not the park: Hong Kong's Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, Rosanna Law Shuk-pui, said at a Legislative Council meeting that the new Marvel-themed area will be completed in 2028-29, as reported by China Daily Hong Kong. That is a reported government signal, not a commitment from Hong Kong Disneyland Resort — so treat 2028-29 as "when it may be finished", and do not build a 2027 trip around it.

Read the table top to bottom and the planning question answers itself: two lines carry the first-half-2027 window, three carry no date at all, and the only timing on the page that reaches beyond 2027 comes from a government statement rather than from Disney.

What's Already at Hong Kong Disneyland

None of this changes what you can do at the park today. Hong Kong Disneyland Resort sits at Penny's Bay on Lantau Island and comprises eight diverse lands, the resort's own count. Its existing Marvel draws are the Iron Man Experience, the flight simulation that puts guests inside the Marvel universe, and Ant-Man and The Wasp: Nano Battle! — the two Marvel attractions to ride if you are travelling before the expansion opens.

For opening hours, current ticket tiers, what is running this week and how to combine the park with the rest of the island, use our Hong Kong Disneyland visit guide. That page is about visiting today; this one is about what is coming.

What This Means for Your 2027 Trip

If the Pixar show is the reason you are going, remember that "first half of 2027" is a window, not a date. It runs from January to the end of June 2027, so a trip from July 2027 onward is the safe way to guarantee the show is open, and a spring 2027 trip should be treated as a maybe until the park publishes an opening date.

If it is Marvel you want, plan for 2028 or later and expect the date to firm up only when the resort announces it. The 2028-29 figure is a government statement reported in the press, not a park commitment, and an undated attraction is not a reason to hold a booking.

Nothing you book now becomes obsolete. Both additions go inside the existing park — the Pixar show into Toy Story Land, the Marvel work into Tomorrowland — so a park ticket still buys a park visit; what changes is what is inside. Watch the official Hong Kong Disneyland website and the park's mobile app, which carries operating hours and entertainment schedules, for the confirmed opening dates.

Frequently Asked Questions

When does the new Pixar show open at Hong Kong Disneyland?

In the first half of 2027. Disney has announced the window rather than a date; the show is being built in Toy Story Land and is available exclusively at HKDL.

Is the new Avengers attraction open yet?

No. No opening date has been announced for the Avengers attraction or for the rest of the Marvel-themed expansion in Tomorrowland. A completion window of 2028-29 has been reported from a Hong Kong government statement, but the resort has not committed to it publicly.

Which Pixar films does the new show feature?

Toy Story, Monsters, Inc., Cars, The Incredibles and Inside Out. The story is original rather than an adaptation: Poppy, an original Pixar character created for the show, is a plush toy from Hong Kong who arrives in Andy's neighbourhood with her owner, Aria.

Do I need to rebook a trip I have already planned?

No. Both additions are inside the existing park, so nothing you have already booked needs changing. What changes is what is inside the gates, and only the Pixar show has a timing window attached to it.

Can I see this show at another Disney park?

Not according to the resort: it describes the show as available exclusively at HKDL, with a character and two original songs created for this production by Disney Live Entertainment teams in Hong Kong and the United States.

Getting There from Lantau

Hong Kong Disneyland is on Lantau's eastern shore at Penny's Bay, a different part of the island from the Big Buddha and Tai O, so it is a separate trip rather than a stop on a Ngong Ping day. The MTR Tung Chung Line runs from Hong Kong Station in Central to Tung Chung in about 30 minutes with no interchange, and the park is reached by its own Disneyland Resort Line, which you join at Sunny Bay. Our getting to Lantau guide and the Lantau transport hub cover the alternative routes and fares.

Food Specialties

Lantau is home to some of the most special foods in Hong Kong. Don't miss out on the vegetarian delights served by the Po Lin Monastery right next to the Giant Buddha statue, nor the authentic preserved seafoods and condiments which are made and sold around Tai O village.

Dining choices have never been larger on Lantau but leave space always for the special snacks such as Egg Waffles and Mango stuffed sticky rice dumplings which you will find only in more authentic parts of Hong Kong.
